Airtel's plans for an IPO next year confirm growing investor interest in Africa's booming digital payments market as the company confirmed a plan to list the business. Airtel Africa currently operates in 14 African countries. Airtel Africa believes that an IPO would give it the necessary financial fuel for expansion and scaling up. "Airtel Money has emerged as a key engine of growth for the group, with revenues from the service rising 20.7% in 2024,"reports TechCabal. "The platform processed $112 billion in transaction value last year, driven by growing adoption in key markets." The company plans to grow in key markets including Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and DRC where there is room to expand mobile money. It will be competing with two other major success stories: Kenya's Safaricom and its M-Pesa service and MTN's MoMo.
