Carlos Wanderley
Carlos Wanderley

Carlos Wanderley is one of the lead tutors at Retail Banking Institute, and a principal at Smarter Way Mentors. According to Carlos, "Retail banking is about truly understanding the customer and managing and making calls based on such understanding. Retail banking, when successful, will provide the needed funding and liquidity certainty for a bank, as well as the best margin and non-concentration is the asset portfolio."

A deeply experienced and dynamic retail banker, Carlos has previously served as Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Latin America Region, HSBC, Managing Director for the Retail Banking Business in Europe and Global Distribution, HSBC, and as General Manager of Customer Propositions at HSBC Bank UK. He also worked as Managing Director, Head of Retail and SME Banking Business for Union Bank Nigeria. He holds a BSc Economics and an MBA, and is an expert on customer-centricity and a true believer in customer-driven success.

Essam El Mallakh
Dr. Essam el Mallakh

Dr Essam El Mallakh started his banking career in 1976 and has wide experience in retail banking management and retail credit management. "The retail bank has proved to be the winning horse in the banking race," he says. "It's the source of profits and success. I can't imagine a world without it!" Dr El Mallakh is a lead tutor at Retail Banking Institute. He worked as VP of Retail Banking head in ABC Egypt; Head of Retail Banking in AAIB Egypt; and Head of Retail Banking & Central Operation of Burgan Bank, Kuwait. He has worked in training activities with the American University of Cairo, the Egyptian Banking Institute, IMC, and Ouda.

Stuart Harle
Stuart Harle

Stuart Harle is an experienced banker in retail, SME, and commercial banking as Group Head of Intelligence at HSBC Group, along with management consultancy experience with Deutsche Bank, Santander, Union Bank UK, and Suncorp. An associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Stuart is an expert on customer management. What is the purpose of retail banking for him? "It is to transform your bank, understand your customers, be insight-led, and optimise the customer experience," he says.

Ronan Lynch

Academic Director

Dr Ronan Lynch is director of Retail Banking Institute and Deputy Chief Executive at Lafferty Group. He is the lead writer and editor for Lafferty Group. He has an MA from the University of Michigan and a PhD from the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Dr Paul Griffiths
Dr Paul Griffiths

Dr Paul Griffiths is Professor of Finance at EM Normandie Business School and Academic Director of the M2/MSc Graduate Programme in Banking, Finance and Fintech. He is author of Corporate Governance in the Knowledge Economy: Lessons from Case Studies in the Finance Sector (Palgrave, 2021). He teaches about governance, ethics, and compliance.

Maha Abdel Resak

Maha Abdel Resak has more than 30 years of banking experience, including 16 years in the USA and 15 years in Egypt, where she has served as head of retail branches and head of mortgage finance. She is Chief Executive at Misr Real Estate Asset Management company with over £40 billion of assets under management. She is a member of the Board at HSBC Egypt where she heads the governance committee. She is also a board member at the Egyptian Real Estate Fund.

Mr Mohamed Labib is a retail banking expert with more than 20 years of experience across the retail banking and payments industry, including retail banking operations, internal control, risk management, portfolio management, products and business development.

Ahmed Ezz Eldin

Ahmed Ezz Eldin has 25 years of banking experience where he has developed excellent leadership & managerial skills, complemented by communication & presentation skills in the fields of retail banking, digital banking, E-payments, and Cards & ATM Operations. He is deeply knowledgeable about the operation and regulation of Cards & E-payments for Visa, MasterCard and Meeza networks. He holds qualification in CRIB and the Future Leaders Program.

Dr Khaled Khaled
Dr Khaled Mohamed Khaled

Dr Khaled Mohamed Khaled is a Consumer Finance expert with over 25 years of banking experience analyzing trends and developments in the retail banking and personal finance sectors. He is deeply knowledgeable in the development of banking products development, design of credit policies, risk policies, strategies & score cards formulations. He is leader of several mega Consumer Banking projects. He is a Certified Retail Banker and works as a Bank Risk Manager in QNB Egypt (QNB Ah Ahli). He previously worked at National Societe Generale & X-Misr International Bank. He says: "Consumer Banking is a daily challenge to provide more personalised seamless customer experience: Successful Retail Banking is a reflection of innovative dynamic minds."

Ms Dina Refaat

Ms Dina Refaat is a senior manager with QNB Al Ahli and has 24 years of experience in the banking sector. A Certified Retail Banker, Dina's main area of focus is retail banking complemented with large corporates and SMEs. She has previously worked for National Société Générale Bank.

Caroline Hastings
Caroline Hastings
Chief Executive

Caroline Hastings is Chief Executive at Retail Banking Institute and Lafferty Group and was a Senior Vice President at Rabobank New York prior to joining Lafferty Group. Qualifications include a Master's in Economics from Trinity College Dublin and an MBA in Finance from La Salle University and Wharton School of Business, Pennsylvania. Caroline is the supervisor for academic candidates at the top level of the Certified International Retail Banker programme.
